World Leader in Grinding and Cutting Equipment Seeks Highly Qualified Personnel to Support its Global Business Endeavors

DISCO Corporation's dicing and grinding equipment hold a commanding lead in the industry. Also, DISCO is well known for its dicing blades and grinding wheels. The precision cutting equipment, using ultra-fine blades with a thickness of 15 micrometers, can cut silicon wafers with a margin of error of less than five micrometers. Amazingly, the equipment is so accurate that it can cut 22 separate sections into the cross-section of a single strand of human hair. Utilized in the production of semiconductors and electronic parts where ultra-fine machining capabilities are essential, DISCO's precision equipment, wheels and blades have set the global standard for excellence for customers throughout the world.

Development of New Applications for Cutting and Grinding Technology Boosts Earnings in FY2000 to Record Levels

The technology accumulated through years of experience in building semiconductor dicing and grinding equipment is now applied in a wide range of processes. Examples include dicing LEDs, SAW filters and flash memory for mobile phones, cutting LCD panels for PDAs, and processing CSPs, a new semiconductor package design for compact, lightweight devices. These new technological developments have had a highly beneficial effect on DISCO's business performance. Sales for the fiscal year ended March 2000 grew 52.6 percent over the previous year to 51.26 billion yen, while pretax profits soar by 127.0 percent to 8.77 billion yen. Both these figures are company records.
